To put the scale of immigration into the UK into perspective (i dont tend to use immigration stats themselves...they are surveys, constantly revised (upwards) and then revised (upwards again) years later when the census is enumerated. Rather I use births to foreign mothers as a more precise proxy - raw, individually enumerated statistics encompassing every birth) What they tell us is that now England and Wales have a share of births to immigrant mothers some 50% higher than that of the USA, the so called 'country of immigrants' USA - 21.3% England/Wales 30.3%. The USA has had limited change since the 1990s, when it was around 17% . In England/Wales it was 11 - 12%. No country has gone from being a moderate immigration country to high immigration country to the same degree as the UK - and what exactly do we have to show for it? More crowds, more congestion, more disunity, more terror, more labour shortages & going on 25 years of wage stagnation. The only two major nations with (slightly) higher immigrant births than the UK are Canada & Australia. Both of those nations have had very high immigration for 20 plus years, and despite that, no skills shortages have been solved. In fact the Australian & Canadian media are even more vociferous about needing more immigrants to 'solve' skills shortages. In summary, immigration hasnt solved a damn thing in Australia or Canada, and it wont solve anything here either.

Just as we've had mass white flight from all larger towns & cities, so I imagine the legacy population will start to leave the UK, or at least England, en masse. I know of a number of people already making plans on leaving given the likely election result. And if there is one thing that keeps English people in England, its family. We dont stay because of the climate, high taxes, crowded roads & services, or shoddy, costly housing, thats for sure. And once some family emigrate, then the impetus for the remaining family to stay diminishes.
